We all know that white is exclusively reserved for the bride (unless you are told otherise), but what about wearing black to a wedding?
‘If, like me, the thought of straying away from your daily black uniform for such a special occasion sends you into a panic, then fear not – unless the invite states otherwise, it is totally acceptable to wear black to a wedding!’ – All Black Everything
Reasons to wear black this wedding season:
It is timeless and chic.
You’ll feel great all day: weddings can be a long, full day event. Feeling comfortable in what you’re wearing is one of the most important things…in life!
Black is practical: and with all the food, drink, dancing and mingling, you don’t want to be worried about a spillage or a stain ruining your ensemble (or those important wedding photos)
You’re less likely to run the risk of looking underdressed or overdressed
You won’t clash with the Bride… unless the bride wears black #awkard
There are definitely some things to consider when choosing and styling your black wedding guest look. The location, the season, and the vibe of the day. If the invite states black tie and the location is a more formal setting then a black gown is going to feel more than appropriate. But if it’s a relaxed outdoor marquee then maybe something softer, and shorter would be more suited.
Time to shop
I have scoured the internet and picked out my favourite black pieces for the 2022 wedding season to hopefully inspire you to wear a little black number to your next celebration of love .
Minimal & Chic
This is such an elegant piece. Styled with minimal jewellery and barely there sandals, I can totally picture this at a celebration in the south of France or a wedding in Tuscany.I love this option for a modern city vibe wedding. A chic style for a reception invite, you’ll be ready to party with the happy couple on the dancefloor. Did someone say shots? #letsgetthisweddingpartystartedStrapless and made from organic cotton, this one calls for a garden setting or a poolside reception. Can I get an invite please just so I can wear this?
A silky satin number
I love the movement in this dress. The shape is stunning and those sheer tiers break up the black beautifully.Simple and elegant. The detail on the shoulders elevates this piece, creating an elegant silhouette.Such a pretty and flattering style. The floaty sleeves provide just enough cover if you’re attending a traditional church wedding. This would also be a gorgeous option for black bridesmaid dresses.
Luxurious lace
I love everything about this, the touch of drama at the bottom, the cut out lace detail that softens the black and those little ruffle straps are so feminine. *adds to basket*Another one on my wishlist. The detail on the bust is beautiful, balanced with the simplicity of the midi skirt. This is understated chic at it’s finest. LOVE!One word to describe this dress. Pretty. Just so pretty. So much beautiful detail in this piece. Those sleeves and higher neck line make this a gorgeous style for a fall wedding.
Breaking up the black
More beautiful lace detail, the nude base breaks up the black, taking away the heaviness that a solid black dress can create, making this a great option for the summer season. The black but not black dress. Stunning black lace florals on a bed of nude. Divine.
