True creativity doesn’t need an excuse. It doesn’t need a reason or even an explanation. This is something I found incredibly frustrating during art college and university.
I always seemed to be able to get to my final piece before I’d filled sketch books showing how I got there (a commercial illustrators dream by the way!)
Being asked why have you done that? How did you get to your final piece? Why have you chosen that topic, that material, that colour?
Sometimes those questions still pop up in my head closely followed by self doubt, until it gets to the point that I find myself putting my pen down and walking away from the chance to let a piece of work just flow.
So this year I’m going to be creative when I feel like it, when I’m inspired and without reason.
Maybe I’ll even step outside of my comfort zone along the way, who knows! 🤍
